Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances

There are so many songs out there that at first listen sound like they would be perfect for the father/daughter or mother/son dance at your wedding.  But when you look at the lyrics (which you should always do before settling on a song), too many times they end up being a little creepy!  It seems like 99% of the love songs that are out there are specifically written for a partner, and not just about love in general.  We have been scouring the music sites for you to come up with a few (non-creepy) options – some old, some new.

Father/Daughter

  • Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder
  • My Girl – The Temptations
  • Father and Daughter – Paul Simon
  • Gracie – Ben Folds
  • I Wish You Love – Dean Martin
  • You Can Have It All – Yo La Tengo
  • Kind and Generous – Natalie Merchant
  • Little Miss Magic – Jimmy Buffet
  • Constellations – Jack Johnson

Mother/Son

  • Stand by Me – Ben E. King
  • What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
  • Beautiful Boy – John Lennon
  • Sweet Child of Mine – Taken By Trees
  • Younger Than Today – Ben Harper
  • In My Life – The Beatles

Several of these would work for either category, or if you want to do these special dances at the same time.  We would love to hear what you chose for your wedding, especially if it’s something a little off the beaten path.
